Community Outreach

Sacramento Police Cares Program.
Sacramento Police Cares has evolved since its inception in 2012, but the core values have remained: to provide non-monetary assistance to people in immediate need.

SPC originated with the intent to help “good people down on their luck.”  The primary focus was to be able to assist people any time of day who were stranded in Sacramento and in need of bus tickets, hotel rooms, fuel, food, etc.  With the expansion of the program, there is the additional opportunity for on-duty officers to purchase items for local residents in need.  Officers may turn in their receipts for reimbursement up to $150.  Officers have used the program to purchase items such as shoes, food, fuel, bedding, and gifts for children.
Pedals Program
The Pedals program provides purchased or donated bicycles and equipment to low-income children and families in the City of Sacramento and surrounding communities.

Pedals creates a positive atmosphere between police officers and the community by providing personal interaction in a learning and giving environment.  We aim to combat juvenile delinquency and improve self-esteem by using the bicycles as vehicles to help improve the lives of youth in our community.  In addition, the program provides free helmets for children and bicycle safety seminars at local schools and community events.

Pedals was established in 2008 by SacPD officers in conjunction with the Sacramento Police Foundation. The officers deliver the bicycles and then help the children and their families with learning about them and maintaining them. These officers have a passion for community outreach and bicycling and enjoy creating some great memories for children who might otherwise not have an opportunity to ride a safe and functioning bike.
